ANIMOSITY

 
 

Animosity is a singleplayer Half-Life 2 level designed for Map Labs’ “Crossfire” competition. Set in a distant future, dystopian city, the player must make their way through opposition in order to stop the imminent launch of a nuclear device.

While the map is heavily based on the original layout of “Crossfire”, the Half-Life 1 deathmatch level, there were plenty of creative liberties taken to make the layout interesting and unique.

 

With just under a month to work on the level, I wanted to make something short but and focus more on the quality of the gameplay rather than the quantity. The level contains a few minor combat sequences, one puzzle sequence, a bigger wave defense, and a final boss fight before the player has to disable the nuke. I was responsible for designing the intial layout, scripting combat encounters, scripting gameplay elements (such as simple puzzles), sound design, and the first art pass.
